Day 02: The departure
16:59We started the day early today as we have an 8h drive. We are heading to Tanzania, the traffic is dense in Nairobi, people everywhere, walking along the road, sleeping in the grass... Out of Nairobi the road is very bumpy, there is some parsec houses and Masai people wearing the traditional clothing, a great introduction to Africa.
We started to learn few Swahili words, like "Jambo", and ... We already forgot them!! what a shame! Hopefully tomorrow will be better!
We are trying to get some few shots of the people here, but we need to be very careful. They hate it..., well unless you pay them, they love it! Some of them believe that when taking their picture, you are taking their soul.
We have now crossed the border and are now in Tanzania. It was not simple to cross, we handed our passports to the guy, who asked a guy who knew a guy then we had to go to see a guy to pay and finally another guy gave us back our passport with the visa. We are still in the Masai land but the landscape changed quite a bit. We have mount Kenya in front of us and the Kilimanjaro on our left.
...Oh! By the way, we know as well "tawa tawa" which means everything ok!!
It's 4h30pm. We are stopped on the middle of nowhere. The truck broke down...! Time for a pipi!! There is a Masai village few meters away, women coming back from land work, stopping meters away, to avoid being seeing by us. Finally George managed to fix the problem, African style, with a hammer and some force! The breakdown delayed our journey from one hour or more. We have to stop in another camp a few kilometres away from Arusha... We have around 30min before sunset to set the camp. We managed it and are now ready for a good dinner and hopefully a good night sleep...
