...we are saying bye bye to Vietnam on the worst way we could. We booked a night bus from Hanoi (Vietnam) to Vientiane (Laos). A guy come to pick us up to get to the bus station. We will not go through the details as it will make us remember one of our worst moment. The guy was the most unpleasant and rude man ever... We embarked into our bus and got the worst sleeping seat (the back one, where you can feel every bump of the road!) On top of that, by crossing a border, imagine that the bus is full of smuggler stuff! Folded shirt all over our seat, falling down on our head every 10 minutes. No toilet available as they are full of shoes pilled up! And some of our luggage had to be pilled up on the floor as there was no more space on the luggage area, it was all taken by dvd players and other electronic goods! Even a guitar was placed behind our head, which every bump was falling down on us! Remember that we are still very sick and didn't get so much good nights for a while! Our nerves are pretty tense!
It's 2am and we are arriving at the border. Of course the Vietnamese border will take from us few dollars as to stamp out our passport. Nice one! We head to the Laos side, and again, the visa price is not accurate. They will try to get any extra dollars to put into their pocket (a usual in this countries). We were quiet experienced on the matter and managed to give away only 3 dollars for our 2 passports. Some other tourists paid up to 30 extra dollars to get their visa, on top of their visa fee. Plus, the second queue that we jumped, but all the other ones took, as to check if the stamp was properly placed for an extra $5!
We go back on the bus after a good 2 hours and are now heading to Vientiane, capital of Laos. The landscape is pretty amazing. We finally arrive there around 4pm. Vientiane look like a big village! Quiet pleasant after Vietnam and it's madness! We will spend 2 days there, the time to organise our journey to Luang Prapang, and do some site seeing. We found there one of the best restaurant ever done in Asia: a French one!! Called the Vendôme, cheap and delicious, Fred from the french family we met in Siem Reap then Hoi An gave us the address. We had after more than 3 month our 1st piece of real meat! Un régal!! Just to think about it "nous met l'eau à la bouche"! Few laundry and admin done and we are taking a 8 hours karaoke bus for Luang Prabang...!
